Countdown to Deadwood!

I spent a fantastic day yesterday at Words and Wonders in Seymour, Indiana and because of that, my car is already packed for the long trek to Deadwood, SD. For the most part, anyway. I still have to dig in the closet and see if I have any more copies of my Summers Sisters books hiding there from last fall since I sold a couple of Blessed Be yesterday but not the entire series. If not, I guess I'll just take Rowena's Song with me. I did meet some really nice debut authors yesterday and hope to run into them in the future to see how they are doing. It's nice to see new authors break into this wild and crazy world of indie publishing!
Today is my day working at Enchanting Garden offering oracle card readings after spending the morning trying to get my clothes in order for the trip to Deadwood. I don't know how many times I will pack unpack and repack before I am satisfied with what I have in my bag. It's always this way. And by the looks of things, the weather in South Dakota isn't going to be the best. Of course, it will change, and I'll end up having to go grab something at the local Walmart. Like I did the year I forgot to pack a nightgown!
I'm really looking forward to making this drive. I've got a room reserved in El Paso, IL for Wednesday night which is about a 4-hour drive. That means I'll get to listen to almost an entire book on Audible. Right now, I'm listening to Sinister by Lisa Jackson and Rosalind Noonan. Last week it was The Tenant by Freida McFadden. Before that, it was The Perfect Marriage and The Perfect Divorce by Jeneva Rose. See a pattern here? I do the psychological thrillers in the car while I'm driving to stay awake. Problem is, I want to stay in the car until the damned book is done! All of these books are fabulously written and edge of the seat gripping.
With that said, I save the romance reading for bedtime. Right now, I am reading book 2 of Nora Roberts' MacKade Brothers series. I can't believe I hadn't read that series yet. Next up is...well...I just don't know. So many books, so little time.
The best part of this driving to Deadwood thing is going to be the company! The amazing, entertaining, intelligent and hopefully patient Lynda Cox will be joining me for the longest part of the drive. Hopefully, we can manage to stay out of trouble...or at least out of jail...right? Just kidding. I promise to behave. I'd hate to have to call my beautiful offspring and have them catch a flight to come bond me out of the pokey in Deadwood. So, girls, if you are reading this...I promise...no mechanical bull or shots of moonshine or dancing nekkid in the streets. If I end up in jail, it will be because I defended myself against an unwarranted attack.
Maybe while I'm in Deadwood, I'll win big at the slot machines. Wouldn't that be fantastic? Win a nice big jackpot without putting my life savings in the slot to begin with! Maybe there's a poker game in town I could get in on. More likely than not, I'll just win enough at the slots to pay for my meals like I've done the last two years. And that's okay too.
After I get home from this trip, it will be time to start putting the finishing touches on my plans for the trip to Stranraer for Authors Invade Scotland. If you are reading this, head over to our attendee page and give it a like and tell a friend. And if you are coming to the event, be sure to stop by my table to say hello and give me the keyword WITCHCRAFT for a free gift.
Okay, I'm going to wrap things up for now...stay tuned next weekend for exclusive pictures and tales from Deadwood, South Dakota!!
