It's a sunny but windy day here in Indiana, which is a change up from what the weather was like yesterday and what it was supposed to be. Had I known the weather was going to be like this, I would have planned better to get some gardening done. Sigh. That weather app is always messing with me. It's all good though, because I had so many things to do to get ready for our event next Saturday.
Next weekend is Plant the Seed in Scottsburg, IN. It's our first event and geared toward homesteaders. Today, I made soap out of the tallow I rendered...lavender and ginger/cinnamon/lemon grass. Tomorrow, I will whip up some more face cream out of tallow using castor oil and the ginger oil I have infusing from our own ginger roots we harvested. All that will be left during the week is labeling everything and my daughter will pack the car while I'm at work on Friday morning.
Our chicks and ducklings are getting really big. It's almost time to transfer them from the brooder to the outside coop...which brings us to another big project on our plate. Adding a new chicken coop and run. In the meantime, we are probably going to use the old one that we were going to use for just the ducks. I'm thinking one of those plastic sheds will work perfectly. We can add some nesting boxes and some perches and use arched cattle panels for the run. It's an all weekend job coming up for sure.
If you aren't a member of my reader group, you are missing out on sneak peeks into my latest project. The Sunflower Acres series. If you haven't already jumped on board, the link to it is Books, Broomsticks and Baubles | Facebook
A couple of other links that would be well worth following are Stranraer 2025… Authors Invade Scotland... Attendees | Facebook
After the event this weekend and after we get the chickens and ducks taken care of, then we will need to get to gardening. And I need to get cracking on my plans for the trip to Authors Invade Scotland. There's not a whole lot of time between getting things done and leaving for Deadwood for Wild Deadwood Reads and preparing for Scotland...the days go really quickly and I'm such a procrastinator.
Since I have a newsletter to put together and get sent out to my PA...because it has a special announcement...I better get on it right now. I hope you had a wonderful day and here's to wishing you a wonderful week!
