Just getting home from a “writer’s retreat” in Galena, Illinois…I say that lightly because there was more retreat than writing that got done! I did manage to write the prologue to my upcoming Christmas novella-The Magickal Christmas Quilt which sets the stage for what I hope will be a fun little rom com. I’ll keep you posted on the release date both here and on my Facebook page. So our weekend started with a walk into historic downtown Galena where we had a wonderful dinner at Vinny Venucchi’s right beside one of the very long staircases spanning the hill up to the top of the town. Nothing like a nice dinner with wine and fellow author friends! Next, we found some excellent desserts at Bread and Vine…how about a nice berry mascapone eclair? Oh. My. God. Heaven on the palate!
Friday we explored the Belvedere House as well as Ulysses Grant’s home then ran over to the Irish Cottages for dinner at Frank O’Dowd’s Irish Pub. Some of the best bangers and mash I’ve ever eaten followed by apple cake. Down in the basement we enjoyed the improv comedy of Dead Bawdy for a fun filled show of debauchery. Saturday we toured The Dowling House which is the oldest home in Galena built in 1826 and visited one of the old cemeteries. Do you know why a woman was called a consort instead of a wife? We wrapped up our Saturday evening with the Spirits and Spirits tour and wine and wine slushees on the sidewalk outside Galena Winery. Of course, we did a lot of shopping at the wide variety of shops..heaven help me when the credit card bill comes!
Thank you to fellow romance authors Tina Susedik and Ginger Ring for a memorable weekend! And readers…check out Tina’s Darlings of Deadwood and Ginger’s Genoa Mafia series.
