I was so stinking busy yesterday working at my part-time job that when I got home, all I wanted to do was sit in my recliner and catch my breath. Eat some food. Put the chickens and ducks up for the night. Listen to the thunderstorm roll through. Watch the drama queen find a hidey hole to get away from the thunder and the explosion of fireworks. Then wrap it all up with catching the final hour of the celebration in Washington D.C. In the midst, I missed posting my thoughts about our nation's 250th birthday. So, I'll do it today.
Our nation was founded by a group of our ancestors who had a vision of freedom for all. To break the chains from the tyranny of a king thousands of miles across the pond. Their vision was set forth in the Declaration of Independence and brought to fruition when farmers, tradesmen, commonfolk took up arms and defeated one of the strongest armies in the world. They did it against all odds, and because of their bravery and their strength, our nation was born.
Over the last 250 years, we have had other brave men and women who have fought to preserve what our forefathers' vision created. Every time our freedom and liberty were threatened, our people joined together as one and stopped them at the gates. We have fought off communists, terrorists, and evil for two and a half centuries. We will continue to do so for another two and a half centuries.
As I watched the final hour of celebration in Washington D.C. last night, I felt pride down in the depths of my soul for this country that a lot of folks take for granted. As President Trump took the stage and honored veterans who were over a hundred years old, shared the flags which have flown high through time and trouble, thanked the gold star families for their sacrifices he made a promise that our country would continue to thrive as one nation under God. One country. One republic, One people. Something to be proud of. And definitely worth fighting for.
With that said, I'm going to get back to work on my next book. I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day and for my friends around the world...thank you for your ancestors who helped build the greatest nation in the world.
