Storms on the Horizon

Welcome to Indiana in the springtime. The trusty weatherman has predicted an elevated risk of storms today. Including high winds, hail and a chance of tornadoes. Luckily, we have the trusty weather predicting hound to keep us on our toes. Right now, she's asleep on the sofa so I think we are safe for the next hour at least.

I'm sure if our ducks were a little older instead of just fluffy little ducklings, they would be loving the puddles in the driveway. We keep holding them and cuddling them so that they will follow us around the yard. We lucked out when we bought straight run because we actually got a loudmouth girl and a quieter boy. And...they are both runners...which are my favorite ducks.

Even though the storms aren't here yet, it is still a gloomy day. Perfect for staying inside and doing projects. I've got my tallow on its second rendering and will probably get out my materials for some jewelry or even for some wind chimes. We have a homesteader's market coming up in a few weeks and I need to get my things in order for that. Next weekend, I will be making ginger, tallow and castor oil soap in these really cool molds.

The hummingbird watch map says we can expect those magickal creatures starting somewhere on or after April 15th. And some of the reading I've done points to the need to change up my feeders. It seems that they prefer purple feeders more than anything. So, I will be shopping online for a couple of new feeders. I completely understand the hummingbirds preferring purple over red. I know that I do.

Yesterday I ordered some more seeds. We are going to try to grow some glass gem popcorn. This stuff is so pretty. I also got some St. John's Wort to add to the herb collection. And we will have gourds...both luffa and birdhouse...which I can grow on the arched trellis opposite the cucumbers. I am itching to get started on gardening. I know it's too early but it's never too early to plan. Or get the beds ready to plant. Which I think I'll do next weekend if it doesn't rain. Maybe even if it does.

I had a case of insomnia last night. I made good use of it though. A couple more chapters on a brand-new book series idea I had just last weekend. Since it's not just an idea anymore and I'm four chapters in., This one will be called the Sunflower Acres series and will be about three women's journey toward healing and love set on a farm in South Dakota. There will also be a companion cookbook to go along with it. Be sure and stay tuned for more information.

I'm going to wrap it all up now and hope that you all have a wonderful week and don't fall for any April Fool's tricks on Tuesday!
