Meet The Dogs…

Writer's picture: Teresa KeeferTeresa Keefer

For those of you who know me personally, you know I have a soft spot for animals. Yep, I talk to them and I think they sometimes listen better than people…and they don’t usually talk back. I say usually, because I have one who has a big mouth most of the time. To top it off, she’s a drama queen. 65 pounds of emotional outbursts. That would be Kate, a Redbone Coon Hound who is scared of storms and loud noises and can be known to get herself into some tight spots such as in the clothes dryer or under the bed. She also believes she is a lap dog who cannot stand to not be the center of attention. That’s okay…I love her anyway!

Then we have Oscar who thinks he’s a Rottweiler tucked inside a five pound body. I’ll let him believe that…until he decides he should chase anything that comes in HIS yard…including coyotes and Mastiffs. He has an unhealthy attachment to my Siamese male cat that we try to ignore. He’s going on 13 and is some sort of terrier mix who has been with me almost 12 years. He has quite the personality and is the alpha of the house who can hear a familiar truck coming from a mile away and is ready to greet the owner of said truck before he even gets in the driveway. He’s a much loved little mutt who will occasionally sneak off to visit my dear friend down the road if you don’t keep a watchful eye on him. I really miss them both when I travel so tonight we are cuddling on the bed before Kate goes to the kennel and Oscar goes to stay with my beloved neighbor tomorrow morning. Yes, I’m off and running tomorrow to meet up with my two author friends for a writers’ retreat and girls weekend in Galena, Illinois. Stay tuned for more on this trip where I hope to make some significant progress on my upcoming holiday novella…The Magickal Christmas Quilt!
